Fine Furniture

serverIn 1946 Sam Olstein founded the White Furniture and Appliance Company. He sold a variety of items from furniture and mattresses, all the way to gas ranges, refrigerators and washing machines. Like most retail establishments, he had some good years and some not so good years, but the tradition he was building continued. The current owner, Jeffrey Olstein, Sam's son, came in to work on Saturdays at age 11. Learning the business from the bottom up, he began full time employment in 1971 after graduation from the Detroit Institute of Technology. When Jeffrey entered the business, a major change of direction began. White Furniture started the process of upgrading its merchandise from the original format of "Three Rooms of Furniture for $299".

In 1980 Sam retired & Jeff assumed full ownership and control of the company. At this time, the decision was made to raise the level of quality once again. The most important changes were in the products and their presentation. White Furniture no longer carried appliances and began associations with La-Z-Boy, Flexsteel, Stanley and many more. White Furniture now carries approximately 250 brands of furniture and accessories. A few years later, as the company grew, they added to the sales staff. Scott Jordan, the manager today, started in the back room doing deliveries and service in 1985. Jeff credits much of the great growth in his company to the employees of White Furniture. Not only Scott and the sales staff, but the delivery and office personnel as well. White Furniture is a team of people working together to help customers. Several years ago, White Furniture embarked on a major overhaul of the display areas. New carpet, new walls, fresh paint and several room settings all helped to improve presentation. New computer systems have made the company more up-to-date and efficient. A remodeled custom design center and installation of the video catalog system give ability show different fabrics on different frames and take the fear out of custom ordering. White Furniture is the leader in having furniture your way. Today's operation is totally different than that of 1946, serving over 25,000 residents in the Downriver area. We've come a long way since Sam started his "One Man Furniture Store", making deliveries in his stake pickup truck at the close of each business day.
